Smol things about love, loneliness and shifting cities
At least once in our life, we have imagined to be that person from the movies, who moves to a new city, gets a drastic makeover, falls in love anew and completely changes their life. Recently I tried to be that person. For over a year after every little turn of the day was pointing towards this city, with my friend’s support and faith in me, I managed to move. Tada! I am currently working and living in Bangalore.
I know, I know I have been MIA for too long now but I am back with a little hope anecdote. Have you noticed how all the movies end with this person moving to a new city, with a promise of a happy ending wrapped in a new beginning. Well, here is what I found out:
Moving cities, doesn’t change the fact that you are lonely, hurt or sad. You are still all of those things- just in a new city. The last three months have been the best of the days and the worst of the days. I have learnt so many things and yet I feel so distant from myself. Adulthood just feels- lonely. Maybe this is why people crave to fall in love, to fall back to someplace, to know a comfort corner, someone whose face you have known for so long that even their footsteps are a familiar sound. Above everything else, I think people stay with people, stay friends or just stay where they are for this comfort of having a place to go to.
Lately, I am becoming more and more uncomfortable in my own company, so I am pushing myself to spend more time with myself. What do you do when you are spending time with yourself? I’d love to know!
Tell me here.
Apart from the loneliness, ton of other things have been happening. I started working with The Orange Heart and it such a life-changing experience. As a lot of you inquire, I work as a content creator/illustrator with multiple people as a freelancer. I totally love what I do and I am so grateful I get to this for a living. I also hosted my first ever pop-up shop in Bangalore with the lovely people at The Sketch Up and the line up was so so cool, check out all the other featured artists here.
What I have been watching:
Good Girls: Omg, it is supposed to be a trash watch but I am so hooked! It is indeed a unique storyline and I enjoyed it a lot. Available on Netflix.
My Name: I haven’t had a lot of time to binge watch K-dramas but My NAme got me hooked and how OMG, if (like me) you didn’t like Han So-hee in Nevertheless, this show is an excellent reset! Available on Netflix.
Happy Old Year: I watched this movie last year but it’s a mvie that I want everyone to watch at least once. it resonated to me more during my move :’)

What else? I have been having a coming of age moment but on days when I feel lonely or sad, I tell myself- it might be a lonely day or a sad evening, in no way, it will be a sad life.
To my heart, which always dreamed of living on her own terms, I am proud of you. To you, who have had a hard day, you are the most precious to yourself, keep yourself safe and well fed hehe.
Thank you for hearing me out! What would you like me to talk about next time? Would you like to know how I managed to move cities ALL on my own? Or anything else? What has been up on your end? Tell me everything! You know I love to hear from you.
Till next time,
Warmly,
Nankhatai
